FAQ

OUR policy

Shimmy Shakes aims to make dance accessible and inclusive of all children. We do this by offering high quality lessons - without the high costs normally associated with dance lessons, having no set uniform, no need for specialised dance shoes, key word sign language used in all classes, extra staff to support children with additional needs, small class sizes so children don’t get overwhelmed and finding out the needs of each individual student so we can design a way to best support them in their dance journey.

HOW LONG ARE CLASSES?

Movers and Shakers classes go for 55 minutes, Fairy Ballet, Sensational Babies, Babies and Minis go for 25 minutes (5 minutes to allow for cleaning in between all classes)

WHAT DO THEY WEAR?

Children can wear anything they are comfortable in and can freely move around in. In warmer months we take shoes off and in colder months it is advised to wear either dance shoes or socks with rubber grip on the soles. Tap classes will require tap shoes.

WHAT DO WE NEED TO BRING?

A labelled bottle of water is all you need to bring with you.

ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS ?

No there are no additional costs, there is no enrolment fee.

Do PARENTS STAY IN THE ROOM?

For our Sensational Babies, Babies and Minis classes a parent or carer must participate in the class with the child. In all other classes it is our aim that parents don't stay in the room, so the children can fully focus during the class. For new students or younger students we may ask parents to stay for the first week or even a few songs and then see how the student goes with the parent/carer outside the room. We will work with each child individually to make the transition as smooth as possible.

The reason we don’t have parents in the room is because children focus more without them in the room.

WHERE CAN PARENTS WAIT?

There is a cafe opposite the studio as well as plenty of seating outside the studio. Once your child is settled in class, you do not need to stay near the studio while classes are on.

HOW MUCH ARE CLASSES? DO I HAVE TO ENROL FOR A WHOLE TERM OR CAN I COME CASUALLY? HOW CAN I PAY MY FEE’S?

55 minute classes are $130 for a 10 week term or $15 if paid casually on the day of the class, 25 minute classes are $100 for a 10 week term or $12 if paid casually on the day of the class. You do not have to enrol for the whole term, however as we only have limited class sizes preference is given to term enrolments. If you enrol for the term and miss a class you can do a make up class in another class that has availability. Make up classes must be done in the term you missed your class. Term payments can be made via our online booking system, by direct deposit (details can be given out once enrolled) or cash. Casual payments must be paid in cash at the studio, at the time of the class. We do not have eftpos facilities on site.

Online bookings can be made via www.bookeo.com/shimmyshakes

IF MY CHILD HAS ADDITIONAL NEEDS, WILL THEY BE CATERED FOR AND CAN I DISCUSS THEIR NEEDS WITH SOMEONE?

We have a range of strategies to help every student gain the best out of our classes. We are used to working with children with varying additional needs and are very happy to accomodate their needs. Prior to starting Shantelle, our principal, will discuss with you their disability, needs and how we can best support them during their class.

DO YOU OFFER FREE TRIAL LESSONS?

DO YOU OFFER AN END OF YEAR CONCERT?
